มหาวิทยาลัยนครพนม ได้รับอนุญาตให้จัดตั้ง ศูนย์ประสานงานโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี (อพ.สธ.) มหาวิทยาลัยนครพนม อย่างเป็นทางการ เพื่อดำเนินงานสนองพระราชดำริโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริฯ เกี่ยวกับการอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากร และเพื่อศึกษารวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับพืชและภูมิปัญญา การใช้ประโยชน์วิถีชีวิตประจำวันของคนในชุมชน การสร้างจิตสำนึกและตระหนักในคุณค่าของทรัพยากรชีวภาพและกายภาพในชุมชน อันส่งผลให้เกิดการพัฒนาและการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชต่าง ๆ ให้เกิดประโยชน์อย่างยั่งยืนแก่ชุมชนต่อไป

ศูนย์ประสานงานโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี (อพ.สธ.) มหาวิทยาลัยนครพนม จะเป็นหน่วยงานภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของสถาบันวิจัยและพัฒนา มหาวิทยาลัยนครพนม ทำหน้าที่ ประสานงานกับหน่วยงานภายในและภายนอกมหาวิทยาลัยในการสนองพระราชดำริโครงการอนุรักษ์พันธุกรรมพืชอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี (อพ.สธ.) จัดฝึกอบรมงานสวนพฤกษาศาสตร์โรงเรียนและงานฐานทรัพยากรท้องถิ่น อพ.สธ. รวมทั้งเป็นพี่เลี้ยงในการบริหารจัดการฐานข้อมูลทรัพยากรท้องถิ่นตามกรอบนโยบายในการสนับสนุน อพ.สธ. ดำเนินงานวิจัย พัฒนา และให้บริการทางวิชาการ นำไปสู่การพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อท้องถิ่น ตลอดจนอนุรักษ์และใช้ประโยชน์ทรัพยากร โดยการวิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์ผลการดำเนินงานสนองพระราชดำริ อพ.สธ. ของมหาวิทยาลัย รวมทั้งหน่วยงานเครือข่ายต่าง ๆ ในภูมิภาค เพื่อวางแผนในการพัฒนาทรัพยากรสู่การใช้ประโยชน์อย่างยั่งยืนของชุมชนท้องถิ่น

The university has received formal approval to establish the RSPG Coordination Center to carry out activities in response to the Royal Initiative on plant genetic conservation, including the conservation of natural resources; the study and compilation of information on plants and local wisdom related to their use in daily life; and the promotion of awareness and appreciation of biological and physical resources within local communities. These efforts aim to support sustainable development and long-term conservation of plant genetic resources for community benefit.

The RSPG Coordination Center at Nakhon Phanom University will operate under the supervision of the Research and Development Institute of Nakhon Phanom University. Its responsibilities include coordinating with internal and external agencies to support the Royal Initiative on plant genetic conservation; organizing training programs on school botanical gardens and local resource–based activities; and serving as a mentor for managing local resource databases in accordance with RSPG’s policy framework. The Center will also conduct research, development, and academic services leading to the creation of locally beneficial products, as well as the conservation and sustainable use of resources. Furthermore, it will analyze and synthesize operational results from the university and regional network agencies to develop planning strategies that promote sustainable utilization of local resources.
