On May 10, 2026, Nakhon Phanom University joined the opening of the “Maha Molam Festival” in Nakhon Phanom, a major cultural event aimed at transforming traditional Isan performing arts into a modern creative industry.
The festival brought together universities, government agencies, and cultural networks to promote molam, the iconic folk music and storytelling tradition of northeastern Thailand, through contemporary performances, interactive exhibitions, and cultural tourism activities along the Mekong River.
Supported by Thailand’s research and innovation agencies, the event highlighted the growing role of Isan cultural capital and soft power in driving the country’s creative economy and attracting wider international audiences.
Held from May 10–11, the festival also introduced a new cultural tourism programme connecting molam traditions with Mekong beliefs, Naga culture, and local community experiences in Nakhon Phanom.
