On August 18, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., Associate Professor Dr. Sumalee Sriputtarin, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Nakhon Phanom University, assigned Assistant Professor Manachai Kaewsiduang, Associate Dean for Administration, together with administrators and staff, to participate in the ceremony of laying a floral tray in tribute to His Majesty King Mongkut, King Rama IV, recognized as the “Father of Thai Science,” at Vajirabophit Auditorium, Nakhon Phanom University (Maruk Nakhon Campus).
The ceremony was held in remembrance of His Majesty’s profound wisdom and contributions, particularly in the fields of science and astronomy. Notably, His Majesty precisely calculated the total solar eclipse at Wa Ko, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, which took place on August 18, 1868, impressing world powers and international scholars alike.
In recognition of his contributions, UNESCO honored King Rama IV as a “Great World Figure,” and the Thai Cabinet has designated August 18 of every year as “National Science Day.”
