On April 28, 2026, Nakhon Phanom University, led by President Prof. Emeritus Dr. Tawadchai Suppadit, won Cabinet approval for a 2.5-billion-baht plan to establish a Faculty of Medicine.
The proposal was presented at Government House in Bangkok by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Tawadchai Suppadit, alongside Asst. Prof. Dr. Runglawon Eamkusolkit and Ms. Chonthicha Srilaon.
The project will run from 2027 to 2036 and aims to address the shortage of doctors in Thailand’s upper northeastern region by training locally recruited students, with the first intake planned for 2028.
It also includes developing a Doctor of Medicine programme and upgrading Nakhon Phanom Hospital, Loei Hospital, and Yasothon Hospital as clinical training centres.
