Congratulations to Nakhon Phanom University Researchers for Receiving an Educational Innovation Grant from Finland's National Education Agency – The Only Project from Thailand
In recent news from the educational sector, researchers from Nakhon Phanom University have been awarded an educational innovation grant by Finland’s National Education Agency. The university’s project was selected as one of the supported projects by Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) under the “Co-creation and implementation on curriculum development for promotion of nature-based solutions in Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) higher education” initiative. The project is a collaboration between the Faculty of Science, Nakhon Phanom University, and the LUMA Center of the University of Helsinki, Finland, with Associate Professor Dr. Cherdchai Phosri, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor Maija Aksela, Director of the LUMA Center, serving as project leaders. The cooperation is planned for three years.
This project, one of 24 chosen globally and the only one from Thailand, was selected from over 80 proposals worldwide. It focuses on developing curricula that promote nature-based solutions (NbS) in both higher education and primary education, aiming to create networks of collaboration between educational institutions at regional and international levels. It also seeks to exchange knowledge and best practices on NbS between Thailand and Finland.
This collaboration stems from a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in 2023 between the Faculty of Science, Nakhon Phanom University, and the LUMA Center of the University of Helsinki. This marks a significant opportunity to advance sustainable education in the Lower Mekong Sub-Region and provides a chance to learn from Finland, a country known for its world-class education system. This will benefit students and faculty in the science programs at Nakhon Phanom University, including the Bachelor of Science programs in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics, as well as the Bachelor of Education programs in physics and biology. Other future programs at the university and Nakhon Phanom University Demonstration School (Phanompittayapattana) will also benefit from this initiative.
