  • Abstract
  •      This study aimed to investigate the effect of peer instruction complemented with hands-on physics activities on the conception of Force and Motion among 26 tenth grade students at Buraeng Withayakhom School, Chomphra district, Surin province, who comprised a total population used in the study conducted in the second semester of academic year 2015. The tools used consisted of: 1) 9 learning management plans based on a peer instruction approach complemented with hands-on physics activities, which passed the evaluation of 9 experts (IOC > 0.80); 2) a 36-item test of Force and Motion conception comprising the concepts on velocity, acceleration, and Newton’s three laws of motion, which passed the reliability testing (KR-20) with a group of students who were not members of the experimental group and gained a coefficient of 0.91, discrimination power values ranging between 0.22 and 0.40, and difficulty values between 0.21 and 0.74. The experiment lasted for 33 hours. Statistics used in data analysis were mean, standard deviation and Class Average Normalized Gain (<g>) to see how the population’s concepts may have changed as a result of instruction.
The results of study indicated that before learning, students had many misconceptions about Force and Motion; and from the analysis of data, students who were given the peer instruction complemented with hands-on physics activities had the increasing correct concepts on Force and Motion. The mean scores of concepts before and after learning were equal to 15.71 and 43.27 percent, respectively, and the overall <g> score was 0.33 which was on the level of medium gain. However, it was in details that some of students’ concepts possessed significant deviations from the correct ones. Learning management based on peer instruction complemented with hands-on physics activities must be modified in detail to make students have a more understanding of correct conception of Force and Motion.
